Sing with us!!

NCCdoyouhearThe North Country Chordsmen rehearse in Hanover, NH at the Church of Christ on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 9:00 PM. The church is right behind the Baker Library on the campus of Dartmouth College (40 College Street).

If you enjoy close harmony and good fellowship, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll discover we’re just a bunch of regular guys from all walks of life with one thing in common….the love of singing in the barbershop style. No problem if you don’t have a wonderful solo voice and have never sung with a group before. Maybe you can’t even read music. Many of us are in the same boat. However if you can carry a tune and have a good ear for music, you’re sure to fit in just fine. We have downloadable tracks for all vocal parts of our songs.

One factor contributing to the (Barbershop Society’s) vast growth is the knowledge that a man does not need to have extensive musical training to enjoy singing. The Society welcomes into its membership good citizens from every walk of life, who get satisfaction from being the central part of a chord of music, whether it originates from the heart or from a musical arrangement. The education in barbershop harmony knows no age boundaries. Our youngest members are in their teens (did you know the Osmond Brothers got their start barbershopping?); our oldest members are in their 80’s.

In barbershop, the melody of the song is carried by the lead singer, while the tenor harmonizes above the melody. The bass sings the lowest notes and the baritone fills in the missing notes below or above the melody to complete the chord.

Our goals:

Fun — First and foremost, members should have fun singing barbershop.

Fellowship — Perpetuate barbershop singing, encourage vocal harmony and good fellowship among its members.

Harmony — Encourage and promote the education of its members and the public in music appreciation of barbershop quartet and chorus singing.

Quality — Put forth a musical product that we are proud of, while entertaining the communities where we live and sing.

All male singers are welcome to drop in and see what our rehearsal is like. No experience is necessary. We have directors educated in vocal training, and they can help you become a better singer! We have learning tracks with all parts so you can listen to you own part, and learn and practice it between rehearsals. Come and check us out!

Please come and see what fun and great harmony can bring to your life. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the rehearsal.
